Bringing Home Your Golden Retriever Puppy
A simple, thoughtful process designed to match each puppy with the right home — and make your transition as smooth as possible.
Connect With Us
Whether you found us online or through a referral, we’re happy to answer your questions and help you decide if a Golden Retriever from Cottontown Companions is the right fit for your home.
We’ll walk you through our current and upcoming litters, what to expect, and how the process works — no pressure, just honest guidance.
Join the Waitlist or Reserve Your Puppy
Once you’ve found a puppy you love — or want to reserve from an upcoming litter — you can place a deposit to hold your spot.
Deposits are applied toward your total and ensure you’re matched with the right puppy as they become available. After reserving, you’ll receive your agreement and health guarantee to review before bringing your puppy home.
Meet the Parents & Puppies
We welcome families to visit our farm in Farmville, Virginia to meet our dogs and experience the environment our puppies grow up in.
You’ll have the opportunity to meet the parents, spend time with the puppies, and see firsthand the care and attention they receive every day.
Visits are scheduled by appointment so we can give you our full attention.
Health & Socialization Promise
Each puppy receives a full veterinary exam, is up to date on vaccinations and deworming, and comes with our 2-Year Genetic Health Guarantee.
Raised in our family environment, our puppies are handled daily, exposed to everyday sights and sounds, and given the early socialization they need to grow into confident, well-adjusted companions.
Pickup Day
Once your puppy reaches the appropriate age (typically around 8 weeks), it’s time to bring them home.
We’ll review your puppy’s health records, feeding routine, and transition tips to help make those first few days smooth and stress-free.
If you’ve placed a deposit, final payment can be completed prior to pickup for a seamless experience.

Are You Ready for a Golden Retriever Puppy?
Bringing home a Golden Retriever is an exciting and rewarding decision — but it’s also a long-term commitment that deserves thoughtful preparation.
Goldens are loyal, intelligent, and deeply people-oriented dogs who thrive with time, structure, and companionship. Before bringing one home, take a moment to consider the following:
🕒 Time & Lifestyle
-
Do I have time each day for walks, play, training, and attention?
-
Am I prepared for the puppy stage — including crate training, potty breaks, and consistent routines?
-
Who will care for my puppy during work hours, travel, or busy days?
🏡 Home Environment
-
Is my home (and yard, if applicable) safe, secure, and ready for a puppy?
-
Am I allowed to have a dog based on my housing situation or lease?
-
Will everyone in the household be comfortable welcoming a new puppy?
💵 Financial Commitment
-
Am I prepared for both the initial cost and ongoing expenses like food, vet care, training, and supplies?
-
Do I have a plan for unexpected medical needs or emergencies?
❤️ Long-Term Responsibility
-
Am I ready to care for a Golden Retriever for the next 10–14 years?
-
Do I understand the time, attention, and consistency this breed needs to thrive?
-
Is my family fully committed to raising and caring for this dog long-term?
